The Buffalo Bandits today announced the team has acquired forward Callum Crawford and goaltender Alex Buque from the Colorado Mammoth in exchange for forward Ryan Benesch and a conditional third-round pick in the 2018 NLL Draft.
Crawford (6’3”, 205 lbs., 11/7/1984) ranked sixth in the NLL with 98 points during the 2017 season, including a career-best 36 goals. His 62 assists ranked fifth among all NLL players. In two seasons with the Mammoth, he recorded 213 points (68+145), ranking fifth among all NLL players in total points during that span.
“We were able to acquire a top-flight offensive player in Callum who has averaged more than 100 points over the last two seasons and is regarded as one of the best passers in the game,” said Bandits General Manager Steve Dietrich.
A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Crawford has totaled 789 career points (276+513) in 171 regular-season games during 13 NLL seasons, adding 44 points (13+31) in 12 playoff contests. His 83 assists in the 2016 season earned him a share of the NLL single-season record.
“In Buque, we’ve acquired a player who is having a tremendous summer season and will come to training camp looking to challenge for the starting goalie position,” Dietrich said.
Buque (5’10”, 230 lbs., 9/27/1992) joins the Bandits after dressing for all 54 games in his first three NLL seasons with the Mammoth. The Whitby, Ontario native has posted a 7-9 record in his career, with a .774 save percentage and an 11.16 goals-against average in 768:55 of play.
“Trading Ryan Benesch was not an easy decision,” Dietrich said. “He has been a tremendous player for us. We thank him for his time in Buffalo and we wish him all the best in Colorado.”
