Youth lacrosse and soccer will be played at Riverside Ice Rink during the summer
The Buffalo Bandits today announced they are donating an Astroturf playing surface to the Hasek’s Heroes and the City of Buffalo’s Riverside Ice Rink. This donation will allow Hasek’s Heroes and the Riverside Ice Rink to stage youth lacrosse, soccer and other sporting events throughout the summer months.

“We purchased a new playing surface for the Buffalo Bandits this year and we wanted to donate the old surface to a place that would be able to use it for the benefit of area children,” said Bandits Managing Partner and Minority Owner, Larry Quinn. “We’ve had a long standing relationship with Hasek’s Heroes and Riverside Ice Rink and we thought this would be a great continuation of our partnership. The Riverside Ice Rink will now be able to stage youth lacrosse and indoor soccer events all summer long.”
The Astroturf playing surface was used by the Buffalo Bandits and HSBC Arena the past several seasons. It is regulation length and in excellent condition.
“Thanks to this generous donation from the Buffalo Bandits to Hasek’s Heroes, city youth will have even greater opportunities for athletic activities at Riverside Rink,” said Mayor Byron W. Brown. “I want to particularly thank the Bandits Managing Partner and Minority Owner Larry Quinn for making the Bandits former Astroturf playing surface available for future indoor youth soccer, lacrosse and other sporting events at Riverside Rink. The Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits have been and continue to be great community partners in the City of Buffalo and throughout our region and I thank them for their support of youth sports in Buffalo.”
The Buffalo Bandits play their home-opener this Saturday night, January 16 vs. the Rochester Knighthawks at HSBC Arena. Good tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.bandits.com or at the HSBC Arena box office.
