The New York Titans brought the Buffalo Bandits season to a close with a 9-3 loss Saturday night at the Prudential Center. Buffalo finished their season with an 11-7 record.
Netminder Matt Vinc led the Titans to the victory, making 40 saves as the Bandits were limited to three goals on the night including scoreless first and fourth quarters.
The Titans opened the scoring with the only point in the first quarter at 7:20 on a goal by Jordan Hall.
With the Titans leading 2-0, Buffalo finally scored on a power play goal from Kevin Dostie. New York quickly answered back with a goal from Ryan Boyle at 10:51 bringing the score to 3-1 leading into the second half.
New York started the third quarter with three consecutive goals from Brandon Mundorf, Matt Alrich, and Mike McLennan giving the Titans a 6-1 advantage. Buffalo struck back goals from Sean Greenhalgh and Mike Accursi, closing the margin to 6-3.
However, the Titans responded with two goals from Pat Maddalena and Casey Powell increasing the New York lead to 8-3 going into the final quarter.
Powell potted the final goal of the night at 4:40 in the fourth quarter. He finished the night leading his team with 7 points (2+5).
Ken Montour started between the pipes for the Bandits making 24 saves on the night off 32 shots on goal before being replaced by Mike Thompson in the final minute of the third frame due to injury. Thompson finished the remainder of the game denying six shots while allowing one goals.
The Bandits had their lowest goal output with three goals tonight. Prior to tonight's game, Buffalo’s fewest goals scored was in an 11-6 loss to the Rochester Knighthawks on April 12, 2008.
The Titans were the only team to sweep the Bandits throughout the 2009 season with a series record of 3-0. New York delivered the Bandits an 11-9 at home loss on March 28. The teams met again April 11 where New York came out on top 12-9 at the Prudential Center.
