The National Lacrosse League today announced that Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares will serve as captain for the Eastern All-Star team at this Sunday’s NLL All-Star Game at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The game will air live on VERSUS and NLL.com at 2 p.m.

Tavares, appearing in his NLL-record ninth All-Star Game, will captain a team that includes fellow Bandits Mark Steenhuis, Chris White and Brett Bucktooth. Tavares leads the Bandits with 35 points (13+22) in seven games in 2011. The most prolific scorer in NLL history, Tavares holds the NLL career records for goals (705), assists (799) and points (1,504). In eight previous All-Star Games, Tavares has scored 29 points (16+13).

The league also announced that two other Bandits personalities will be part of the festivities. John Gurtler will handle the television broadcast play-by-play and Chris Swenson will serve as the game’s public address announcer.

Gurtler is in his eighth season as the TV and radio voice of the Bandits, and can be heard calling Bandits games online at NLL.com or locally in Western New York on Time Warner Cable. Swenson is in his 20th season as the Bandits’ PA announcer, and is known by fans around the league for his energetic style and ability to get the crowd on their feet during NLL games.
