The National Lacrosse League announced today that Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares has been named the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a game-high seven points (4+3) in Buffalo's 14-4 victory over the Portland LumberJax last Saturday.
In addition, goaltender Ken Montour has been named the Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Montour allowed a season-low four goals and made 34 saves in his sixth victory of the season. The four goals allowed tied the Bandits record for fewest goals against in a single game originally set on January 19, 2003 in a 10-4 win against New Jersey.
Tavares had a hand in all four of Buffalo’s goals in the third quarter, assisting on the first two and scoring the second two. He now has 64 points (34+30) on the season and is second in the NLL in goal scoring behind teammate Mark Steenhuis.
Montour earned his third Player of the Week honors thanks to his 34-save performance on Saturday. Montour made 14 saves in the second half as he held the LumberJax to just one goal in the final two quarters. He continues to lead the league with a 9.04 GAA, .818 save percentage and six victories.
The Bandits next home game is this Saturday against the New York Titans at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets, starting at $18 pre-sale, are still available for all remaining home games including Saturday. To purchase tickets or for more information call 1-888-467-2273 or log on to www.bandits.com.
